Devin Moore- In Geneva (demo)
This demo is a continuation of my Frankenstein project (the first song of which can be heard here), and is from the perspective of Frankenstein this time. He is telling Walton of his homeland Geneva and events from his childhood, including the adoption of his “sister” Elizabeth, the death of his mother, and his betrothal to Elizabeth.
In Geneva, pastoral, perfectly serene
It receives you among its vibrant blues and greens
Sweet Geneva.
I passed my youth there with one companion I held dear,
More than Alpine air.
She was an orphan taken in as my sister.
As for interests, preoccupied with my study
In the secrets of natural philosophy.
But oh! Geneva!
I maintain, to this day,
A man’s value is dependent on his upbringing.
And I was blessed, I was blessed
As evidenced upon my countenance.
I knew not unhappy times
My destiny burned brighter than Heaven’s light
Suddenly, tragedy
The Scarlet Fever took my family
One final wish before her death,
As my mother clasped my hand to Elizabeth’s:
“All I required for happiness
Was your union in matrimonial bliss.”
And she was my Elizabeth,
She was mine.
